Kastoria, in far-northern Greece, is famous for its many Byzantine Churches. The one depicted here is unusual in having a tall dome, giving the building its second name, Koubelidiki from kubeh, or dome, in Turkish. The Greek name, kastriotissa, has to do with the Church’s proximity to the walls of the citadel, or kastro.

Painting comes matted with an archival matte and black metal frame.
